About Remix Tiles

Updated 2026-10-28

Remix Tiles is a free rhythm game that runs in the browser, made by John Hany, an independent game developer. It started from a simple question: the BeatSaver community has charted thousands of songs for Beat Saber, so why should playing them need a VR headset? Remix Tiles turns those charts into a tap-the-tiles game anyone can play on a phone or a computer.

Who makes it

Remix Tiles is designed, built and maintained by John Hany. It's an independent fan project: no publisher, no investors, no ads and no accounts. The art, stages, crowd sounds and light-show logic come from John's earlier game, RIFFVOLT.

How the game works

When you press Play, the game downloads the map from BeatSaver's public API and converts it in your browser. Every note keeps its exact time; red (left-hand) notes go to the two left lanes and blue (right-hand) notes to the two right lanes; notes at the same moment become chords; arcs become long notes; and the map's own lighting events drive the light show behind the lanes. Timing follows the browser's audio clock, with an offset you can calibrate. The game is written in plain JavaScript with no frameworks, which keeps it small enough to load quickly on a phone and to work offline once installed. More about how maps become tiles.

How song pages are made

Each of the 49 song pages is built from data, not written by hand. A build script picks well-loved maps from BeatSaver (top rated and recently curated, at most two per artist, no AI-made or modded maps), runs every difficulty through the same converter the game uses, and records what it finds: the number of tiles, chords and long notes, the busiest five seconds and how the notes split between your hands. The current numbers were checked on 2026-10-28. The short write-up on each page is generated from those numbers, and pages that come out too thin or too similar to the others aren't published. Song details, ratings and mapper notes come from BeatSaver.

Songs, mappers and takedowns

All music belongs to its artists and rights holders, and every chart to the mapper who made it. Remix Tiles doesn't host song files: they stream from BeatSaver when you play, and every song credits its mapper and links back to BeatSaver. If you hold the rights to a song and want it removed from Remix Tiles, see Privacy & takedowns or email [email protected]. Remix Tiles is not affiliated with BeatSaver or Beat Games.
